Telephone / Mail-Order Merchant Account

A telephone / mail-order merchant account (MOTO) is basically the same as an Internet merchant account - risks are higher for potential fraud than a brick and mortar merchant account.  The merchant is unable to verify the cardholder's identity, opening the door for more chargeback reasons.

You will need a merchant account of course, along with an electronic payment gateway (Quantum, Authorize.net, etc) that offers a virtual terminal.  The virtual terminal usually comes at no extra cost to the merchant.  With the virtual terminal, the merchant is able to process a credit card transaction via the Internet on the electronic payment gateway's secure website.

Most virtual terminals are similar - the merchant is able to complete transactions, refund a customer, settle batches, etc.  The QuantumGateway is one of the very few electronic payment gateways that merchants can access via a WAP-enabled phone, allowing the merchant to complete transactions almost anywhere.  The QuantumGateway does not charge anything extra for this valuable option.

The rates for a MOTO merchant account is the same as an Internet merchant account.

• Discount Rate:  2.19%
• Transaction Fee:  20¢
• ACH Fee:  Free (most charge a transaction cost - this will save you about $5.00 a month)
• Batch Fee:  Free (most charge a transaction cost - this will save you about $7.50 a month)
• Non-Qualified Rates - Unlike most other companies, we do not have a mid-qualified rate, saving you more money.
  • Discount Rate Surcharge: 1.50% - most companies charge 2% or more on non-qualified rates, bringing your discount rate to over 4%!  Take a look at your merchant account statement to see how many transactions are downgraded.  If you have fifty $100 transactions downgraded to non-qualified, this merchant account can save you at least $50.00 a month!
